About Us

About Me:

My name is Katie de Weerth, and I am a senior at the Marymount School of New York. Several years ago, my father was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma which was a shock and a challenge for our family. We were scared about the possibility of losing him and consumed by the adjustments we had to make to our daily lives to ensure he had the right care. Processing and learning how to cope with the practical and emotional impacts of the disease has made me a more mature, responsible, and compassionate individual. I realized during the most difficult times  how much it meant for us to know that our friends were thinking about us; we felt embraced and encouraged by our community’s care and support. Without them it would have been harder.

  • I conceived of Four-titude as a way to help cancer patients find and nurture their strength, courage, hope, and love, four essential attributes to help fight the malady emotionally.  Four-titude is an organization that sells hats and for each item sold a hat is donated to a cancer patient under the “Buy One, Give One” (BOGO) charitable formula. The hats provide warmth and comfort for customers/donors and patients alike and come in four colors that support our themes: blue (for Strength), red (for Courage) white (for Hope) and pink (for Love). Our buyers can choose which attribute they wish to donate.

  • I enjoy reading poetry and also wanted to make each item sold more personal. Therefore, included with each hat, is an explanation of Four-titude’s mission and an inspirational quote taken from a poem supporting the theme of the characteristic symbolized by each color.
